I have visited Tepotzatlan, Mexico many times. It is a high mountain village about an hour outside of Mexico City. It was founded in 1525 and not much has changed about the town since then. The Cathedral of Tepotzatlan is almost bigger than the whole town. A little over 1800 people live there. Because of its proximity to the volcano, Popocatepetl, the mountains have strange volcanic shapes covered in jungle. Because of the volcanic properties in the soil and water, Mexicans believe that it is a mystical place of healing. In this depiction every color and design that you see on any of the houses actually exist in this little town. I documented them all as I walked the steep cobblestone streets. Alcohol Inks, Acrylic Pens and black liner.
