I love when a character surprises me. I didn’t set out to give this chameleon a particular personality – it just sort of evolved. When I was done I realized from his tiny gripping feet and hunched back to the expression on his face that he certainly was a bashful soul, maybe one who would like to not hide, one who would like to put himself out there, but he just isn’t ready. Alcohol inks provide all the basic color. I purposely left the black outline of the background foliage to give it a softer, less prominent feel. The fun part was adding acrylic dots for texture on the chameleon’s skin. Which color do you think the chameleon is changing to?
